Felt Crafts on Etsy

by Bernadette
(Browns Mills)

I’ve always loved to make silly little bags and keychains out of felt. Felt is an under-appreciated medium, and it can really be beautiful when given the proper attention. I started to accumulate a lot of these felt crafts, as I just loved to make them on my spare time.

It was the perfect thing to do to keep my hands busy while watching TV or a movie. It was also a portable hobby to bring along to the doctor’s office or between college classes. I enjoy the comfort and ease of working on a sewing project, but they were starting to pile up in my closet.

One of my friends, however, suggested that I an Etsy shop to sell my crafts. Etsy, I learned, is an online site for people to sell their handmade crafts. I quickly posted my crafts to Etsy and immediately started selling. It was a great feeling to actually make a little money for what I loved to do. Eventually, I started making a lot more things from felt, moving into pins, purses, pouches, coin purses, scarves, potholders, and magnets. I also started taking custom orders on my site.

Around Halloween I get a lot of requests for monster bags. Participating in Etsy led me to participate in some local craft fairs as well. My sales are also pretty impressive at craft fairs. My hobby has turned into a lucrative business of sorts, and I couldn’t be happier about it. Etsy was a great way to get my crafts selling and out of my closet.
