How I Make Money Online

by Misty from New MexicoWhen I was looking for ways to make money online from home, I actually fell for a scheme about making money as a medical biller. I saw an ad in the local newspaper under business opportunities and I called about it. I don't remember what the investment was, but it appeared to be a full package of training, software and leads – a set up business.
Well, it wasn't. I got a software package and a little book that supposedly told you exactly how to build a business as a medical biller. It sounded like a good idea and I had the software, but it was short on training. So, I signed up for course in medical billing through a direct study course and got a certificate as a medical biller. Then, I tried to build leads by marketing to local doctors. What I found out was they had outsourced their billing before to a person who offered medical billing and that he managed to cause them to lose money, so they weren't willing to try it again. Anyway, now I have the knowledge to be a medical biller, a certificate as a medical billing specialist and the software to run the business but it is pretty useless.
The Horizons Got Brighter
Giving up on medical billing, I started looking for bookkeeping jobs online – something that I already had experience in. What I found was a project on a freelance board that requested bids from freelance writers. I have always loved to write, but I didn't think that I could actually get paid for writing – but I decided to give it a shot. I signed up as a service provider in writing category and started bidding on jobs. I started making quite a bit of money working the freelance board part time for about two years. When I got totally fed up with my job, I simply quit and decided to take on writing full time. I made enough to support my family comfortably as a single mom.
The Bottom Started Falling Out
The competition from foreign providers pretty much drove the prices down on freelance boards making it harder and harder to get jobs that are actually worth doing. I still get some work from freelance boards, but it seems that most of my time there is spent on bidding instead of making money. I started exploring for other ideas for making money writing.
Finally I Found the Opportunity of My Dreams
One of my clients suggested that I build my own
money making website.
I found out that many of the clients that I was working for were actually making money with a website - real money and lots of it. Now, I make money through websites that I build myself using awesome tools that enable anyone who can surf the web to build a profitable website.
