There are few choices that will allow you to make money today. Even online jobs take some time to transfer money unless you have a PayPal account and a PayPal debit card and you find jobs that will actually pay you through PayPal on the day that you make the money.
So suppose that your electricity or water is shut off early in morning and you have to make $200 to pay the bill before five o'clock or you'll have no electricity or water over the weekend. How will you come up with the money?
- Find a few large yards that need to be mowed.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with going door to door and asking for work if it is apparently needed and it is a great way to make money today. You might want to check your city ordinances to make sure it isn't against the law, but I've never heard that it is. I have had tons of people come to my door and ask if want the yard mowed or the weeds pulled. If I have the money, I'm more than happy to pay them to do the tasks.
- Call some friends who work fulltime and offer to clean their house or to do their laundry.
Depending on the size of the house, you can usually charge from $50-$75 to clean it. People who work full time and clean house and do laundry on the weekends might actually appreciate the offer. If you feel funny asking friends, just ask them if they anyone who needs a housekeeper, but be sure to tell that you need to make money today.
- Go to businesses and offer to clean their windows.
Many small businesses don't have a normal cleaning crew. Take a bucket and a squeegee and offer to clean the windows. If they don't want to have that done, ask if there is anything else you can do to make some money. They might have some filing that needs to be caught up or shelves that need to be dusted and straightened up.
- Visit the pawn shop.
If you look around your house, I am sure that you will find something of value. You can always hock things at the pawn shop for immediate cash. Personally, I don't recommend it because you have to come with the money to buy back the items if you choose to, but it may be worth it if you are just waiting for payday.
- Get a payday loan.
If you have a job or if you own a vehicle, you can often get loans at a payday lender or a title lender. You will have to pay the money back and most payday loans are due at your next payday. In addition to the amount that you borrow, you will also have to pay a fee.
- Sell used books, videos or video games.
Many book and video stores buy used products as long as they have the barcode on them and the original case. You won't get a lot of money for them, but every cent counts when you are in a bind.
- Make some burritos or cookies and sell them.
This may be a problem in some areas, but if there aren't any solicitation rules and you approach people who actually know you, you can actually make a lot of money selling prepared food – especially to people who are at work. It is a bad idea to go door to door selling food if you are not licensed. I suggest calling someone who you know who works in a big place and ask them to ask their coworkers if they want to order a dozen homemade cookies or burritos delivered hot around lunchtime.
- Panhandle.
You can simply ask for money from people who you don't know. I actually think that is illegal, but there are so many people doing it. Personally, I don't think I could handle it, but if things got really bad, I might give it a try.
A lot of people get accustomed to having everything that they need, and they don't even think about being in dire need. Being broke is not the worse thing that can happen to you. There is always some way to make money today if your desire is great enough.
Misty, those are pretty good ideas for those that are broke-broke and need fast money. I think I'd do about anything before I'd resort to panhandling. I've been broke, but not, without something to fall back on. Guess we all have to be there first to know how we'd react. Regarding pawn shops, if you have something they can make money on, they will buy it outright from you.... Bill
