Making Extra Money Solutions
Making extra money is necessary for most people who are drowning in debt. Perhaps lack of funds is why they accumulated so much debt; however, being overextended is sometimes due to poor money management. Unexpected expenses such as health care or home repairs can also set you back as can periods of unemployment.
Many people take on a second job (or a third one) in order to make ends meet and stay current on their bills. That may work for the short term, but over the long term it can be extremely tiring and it can affect your health as well as your relationships with other people. There has to be a better way.
Here are some tips for paying off debt…
- Develop a personal budget and stick to it.
- Save some money to cover emergencies.
- Get rid of your credit cards.
- Use any extra money that you get to pay off bills (including your tax return).
- Start with your smallest debt and double your minimum payment until it is paid off and then use that money to pay extra on your next lowest debt.
- Continue this pattern until all debt is paid off.
- Don't get discouraged. It may take some time before you feel like you made a dent.
I know that sounds like a good plan, but how do you make extra money if you are dependent on credit cards already?
Here are some ideas for making extra money…
- Start cleaning out your garage, your cabinets and your closets. I'm sure you will find lots of stuff that are not necessities and that you don't ever use. Have a yard sale or learn about making money on eBay.
- Go to garage sales and buy items for next to nothing and sell them on eBay.
- When you're driving around town look for houses that need yard work. Offer to do it for a fee.
- Take up some hobbies that make money, or learn how to make money doing what you enjoy.
- In your spare time, take online surveys.
- Save, gather and sell aluminum cans.
- Run an ad for babysitting or sitting with elderly people on weekends or pet sitting for people who go on vacation.
- Open a website. This will not be fast money, but a successful website can be a source of residual income that will be there for the rest of your life.
Here in our town, pecan season is a good time for making extra money. My kids and I often offer to pick up pecans on the half – that means that the tree owner's gets half of the pecans and we sell the other half. From time to time we run across people that don't want the pecans and are happy with a clean yard. We enjoy doing it. These are just some ideas for making extra money to pay off debt without taking a second job. I'm sure that you can come up with some yourself. Once you are committed to your mission, you will be driven to earn extra money to pay off your debt.
