Making Money
with MTurk Is Possible

by Alida
(Oregon)

I was beginning to think that it was somewhat impossible to make money online after pretty much years of sifting through various scams and such. Refusing to believe that the internet fails to provide some way to make legitimate money I finally stumbled upon Amazon’s Mechanical Turk.

This is a site that offers small jobs to be done that can’t be done by computers. They range in pay from a penny all the way to a couple dollars. You simply click on the job, do it, and then once it is approved, you get paid real, actual money. I thought this was so great I wondered what the catch was.

The catches are that first, you need to sift and learn which jobs or HITs as they are called are just scams. These are people posting jobs where you are supposed to fill out your real information on some site and then supposedly put some confirmation of some sort into Mechanical Turk in order to prove you completed the HIT. However, the page you are supposed to get your confirmation on never comes, so you need to learn which HITs to avoid.

The second catch is that even if you do the writing HITs, they are usually only offering a couple dollars for articles to be written as long as 500 words. A 500 word article can take even a good writer anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour depending on how familiar they are with the subject. A dollar for an hour of your time doesn’t seem worth it. BUT, if you put that aside and do it anyways like I have, you can supplement your income up to over 250 bucks each month if you average about 8 or 9 dollars per day.
