All of them rank in the top 2% of websites as ranked by Alexa (most of them stay closer to the top 1%). I'm still building this site, so it isn't fully monetized yet. My first four are profitable. I think the only proof one would need of that is the fact that I keep spending money and putting in the time to build more websites. I began building my second website, Collecting Celebrity Autographs, in March 2009. It is already one of the most visited of all websites representing the autograph hobby. I am very proud of this one. Whereas the Gulf Shores site makes most its money from Google Adsense, the autograph site makes most of its money from eBay affiliate links. I was a heavy eBay seller at one time, and I can tell you without hesitation that this is a much easier to way to make money with eBay. As an eBay seller, I had to constantly find and list new product. Then ship it and hope I was left good feedback. As an affiliate, I just post links on my pages and check my PayPal for my monthly eBay payment. I'm building a real business that is not dependent on someone else's business model. I still use eBay as both a buyer and a seller, but it is only one small piece of my income stream now. Beyond the fact I can make money without selling a product, the older my site gets and the more pages that I add, the faster my profit grows. Since I don't sell a product, I'm not tied down to any one location to do business, and I have no need for employees. I bought my third Site Build It site, Denver Colorado Tourist Guide last summer. My wife and I own property in Colorado and visit often. Writing content is easy for places that I enjoy visiting, and it gave me a place to post some of my favorite Colorado photos. I bought my fourth site, Flower Garden Lover, on New Years Eve 2009. This one was already live on the web when I bought it, hence the feminine voice. The traffic was great in the spring, but has slowed down for the summer. I'm expecting great things for this one when spring gardening season kicks in again next year. This site makes money all year, but I still consider it to be seasonal because it so good from February to June. I don't recommend buying an established site until you learn how to build one from scratch, but after you get involved in site building, sometimes buying an established site makes sense. They get bought and sold like real estate. You should be involved in your first site from its first day, and your first site should be written in your voice. I started another site Pet Shop and More in August 2011. This site will be an informational site that makees money though affiliates and Adsense. It will also drive traffic to my wife's pet sitting business. I remember reading somewhere that if you know more about a subject than 75% of world, you can consider yourself an expert. Only a very tiny percentage of that 75% will build a website and a tiny percentage of those people will build one that gets enough traffic to make money. Many people know more than I do about autographs, but just a handful of those people get around to building a website. If you aren't found by the search engines for keywords, you aren't going to have traffic and you aren't going to make money. Building a website where your pages don't show up on the first page of a Google search is like building a candy store down a very long path in a forest where nobody walks but you and a few close friends and family. If you have your site hosted at Site Build It, you will learn how to get your site found. All of your pages might not make it to the the first page of Google search results, but enough will that with good linking (that you will learn) the rest of your site pages will get traffic. It seems that almost everybody surfs the internet nowadays, but few know how websites that don't sell products make money. Contextual ads like Adsense and Chitika is the easiest and most popular method of making money on the internet. Promoting affiliates is another way to make money; for example, I will make a commission if you buy a Site Build It hosted website. If you buy an SBI site you can make money in the same way, and you don't have to have a "money" site like this one to do it. Some people do very well promoting Clickbank e-books. ClickBank is easy. Post the link and you are done. Others make money by selling ad space. As a site becomes popular and builds traffic, advertisers will sometimes contact the site owner. Some site owners initiate the negotiations. I don't enjoy sales calls, so I don't use this method of monetization. Those who don't mind a little direct marketing often make good money selling ad space. Lastly, some site owners make money with their websites by promoting an existing business. Everything from a hobby shop to a real estate business can grow their business through a website. With Site Build It, you can learn how to get your site found easily by keyword searches. If someone has to type you name in to be found, you are just making it easy for those who already know you.
